Activity Article
North Basketball is looking for YOU. The Polars’ finished the season last year with an early exit from the section 4aaaa tournament in the first round of preliminaries but showed that they have what it takes after having a six game win streak right before the postseason. Anyone interested or that would like information can contact senior Rex Johnson or juniors Hunter Books and Johnny Economy. Or any other basketball player you may know.
“We love having new players come out each year. They keep us on our toes and we are always looking to improve our team as a whole.” Says junior Hunter Books who was a key component to the North offense. When asked about the basketball season Hunter says, “We practice everyday after school and even though it turns into a drag for a while, it is definitely fun with all of the guys and we enjoy every second of the season.”
The North players also hold open gym Wednesday nights in the offseason where you can get information from the head coach or any of next year’s captains. Also it’s a fun time to shoot around with your friends, and have a good time playing a very fun sport.
Rise Against Music Review
The band Rise Against has been part of the music world since 1999, producing six albums starting in 2006. Endgame is their newest CD that was started in the latter half of 2010, and already has sold plenty of albums. This CD has a very alternative and punk feel to it. If you are interested in this genre, I would recommend listening to this album. The first hit single chosen off of it was track 5, Satellite.
On the making of the album, vocalist/guitarist Tim McIlrath says “It’s about a dangerous time in civilization, the end of life.” There are thoughts that Rise Against is a very, very important band to it’s true, ever-expanding fan base. The response of listeners has shown that it been an overwhelmingly positive source to help them even find a career path and choice since the band came together over a decade ago.
Rise Against started its most recent tour on April 20th 2011, and play over 30 concerts. The closest concert coming to the Twin Cities area is in St Paul, MN at the Xcel Energy Center, and also at Summerfest 2011, in Milwaukee, WI.
This band can relate to a lot of high school students if you listen to the lyrics that they say. They have a deeper meaning behind them then most of the bands heard by students. In my opinion, I would definitely recommend a purchase of this album.
Petros Tewelde, Sports Fanatic
Petros Tewelde is still getting used to North High. He is rather new to the school as he transferred from Roseville his junior year and says “I still hangout with them all the time.” However, he is still enjoying his senior year at North.
In his spare time Petros enjoys playing basketball at the community center, hanging out with all of his Roseville friends, and making money at Cub Foods, but over almost anything else, he is cheering on the NBA’s own Denver Nuggets as he calls himself a “die hard fan for sure.” Although that’s his favorite team, his favorite player is actually Kevin Martin who plays on the Houston Rockets.
The one thing that has been on Petros’ mind is finishing off his senior year the right way. To the fullest and to make sure he enjoys every moment along the way. Once graduated, he plans to go to college but is still undecided about what he would like to major in. One thing to say about Petros is he is always up for a good time and is just living life day by day to the fullest.
